This guided four-week online course is for intermediate to experienced writers of nonfiction—including lyric essay, personal essay, memoir—who are interested in workshopping an ongoing or new essay project in an online group setting. The class will run asynchronously in the Wet Ink platform, meaning that you don't have to be available to meet at any specific times. Instead, you can access the materials on the online platform and work with them at your own pace.
What you will get:
A course that focuses on finding the key image, memory, or scene for each section of a personal essay or selection of memoir-based writing.
At least two prompts per week that you can use either to revise existing material or generate new material.
Written mini-lectures.
One 45-minute group Zoom meeting with me to discuss the writing process and craft issues.
Feedback on what you write for the prompts from both me and your classmates.
Feedback on up to 12pp. of an essay from you, including extensive written comments from me on how your essay is working in terms of organization, voice, pacing, and the key moments/images on which the essay hangs.
For this class, you can either come with an essay that you are interested in working on in the course, or you can write new material over the course of the four weeks. (Or some combination of the two.)
The course will run May 3-30, 2026.
(You don’t need to be present at any specific times/dates, though there will be the one optional Zoom meeting, which I’ll hold on Saturday May 16th, 12:15-1:00 Eastern time.)
Limited to 8 Participants
Early bird price ends April 18th.
